Word formation – sample exercise
Please note that this is a sample exercise; we're trying to show you how this kind of exercise works.
Now read the numbered sentences below and try to guess the missing words. Look at the first sentence:
1) She has a natural _______ in sports, and seems to do well in any sport she tries.
Both talent and interest correctly complete it, but if you look at the second sentence, you'll see that neither fits there, no matter how you try to change the base words:
2) If you are _______ to come to the party, everyone will be really happy to see you.
Talent or interest wouldn't work in the rest of the sentences, either. So you'll need to think of a different word, one that fits (in its correct form) in all five sentences. Look at the sentences now again and try to find the missing word, and complete the sentences with (again, you need to use the base word in its correct form).
